Phillipskop Mountain Reserve
Haarkapper Trail
Haarkapper Hiking Trail at Phillipskop Mountain Reserve. This beautiful hike crosses over the Klein River Mountains, between Phillipskop and Tesselaarsdal, via Elzaksa Farm. The 15km trail follows a figure of eight and follows in the footsteps of the famous Tesselaarsdal Barber. For over 20 years, Jannie Willemse used to walk 20km over the Klein River Mountains to Stanford every Saturday, to cut the townsfolk’s hair, before returning to his Tesselaarsdal farm the same day.
More information about the hiking trail, including maps and permits, as well as the barber of Tesselaarsdal, can be found at the link below.

Becoming a friend of our reserve
Phillipskop Mountain Reserve has launched a new scheme to encourage locals to explore the reserve and to get a taste of all seasons. For an annual conservation fee of just R150 per adult, Friends of Phillipskop will gain day access to the reserve throughout the year. This is less than the cost of 4 visits, so even if you plan to visit only once per season, it will save you money. As a Friend, you will also be supporting the conservation work: maintaining footpaths, clearing aliens, and protecting the plant and animal life.
